Our Story
Welcome to
Ss. Mary & Michael’s
In 1909, a group of converts to the Orthodox Faith founded Nativity of the Theotokos Church in Madera, Pennsylvania. They built a stone temple with their own hard labor and began growing their community there.
Ten miles away and ten years later, Russian immigrants bought property in Irvona and built St Michael’s Church. As more discovered Orthodox Christianity, they would eventually build a parish house and hall on their campus.
Through the guidance of Father David (Lewis), the two communities began worshipping as one family, sharing their love of Christ with each other. In 2021, Fr. David retired after a quarter century of faithful ministry. With a vision to become one parish to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serve the people of Clearfield County according to His commandments—feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, etc.—Fr. Alexander Cadman was appointed to help lay a firm foundation for future growth and ministry. Our mission is to cooperate with our Lord through services and outreach so that He would add daily to His Church those who are being saved.
